This important parish ministry is often performed behind the scenes. Sacristans set up the necessary liturgical items for Mass and ensure that these items will be available for future celebrations of the Eucharist. They also ensure that all the ministries needed for the Mass are present: EMHC, altar servers, lectors, ushers etc.

Training is provided. Sacristans are scheduled once or twice a month and need to be present 30 or 40 minutes before Mass to unlock, set up and make sure everything needed has been put out. They also need to stay for about 15 minutes after Mass to put things away and lock doors as needed. A Sacristan needs to be an EMHC.  This ministry is good for those with a smiling face who like to help make things run smoothly.
